SIX Renumbering Timeline

Subject: SIX Renumbering Timeline
As discussed as the annual meeting, we are going to renumber into ARIN
IPv4 and IPv6 blocks.
Below is the timeline! Please read it carefully.
For IPv4, July 15th is the date for those looking for a single transition
(flag) date. This date was chosen at the annual meeting and is 3 months
out so that networks with deep planning processes can prepare well in
advance.
If you are desiring to transition before July 15th, please use direct
email with your peers rather than the members list so as to avoid
diminishing its usefulness.
The IPv6 timeline, also below, is much sooner because the number of IPv6
participants is smaller and the process may provide useful experiential
knowledge for the latter IPv4 renumbering.
Questions to info_a_t_seattleix.net. Discussion to members_a_t_seattleix.net.

IPv4 timeline:
- April through July 15th:
- During this 3 month period, it is recommended that the new IPv4
address be added to your router as a secondary IP and ACLs adjusted
as needed to accommodate both new and legacy addresses. Your new
address is listed on the participants page. The subnet is
206.81.80/23 (yes, twenty-three) and the final octet is the same as
your present 198.32.180/24 address.
- During this period you may also communicate directly with your peers
to migrate over sessions, if you like, but note the bulk of this is
intended to start on July 15th. Until July 15th, you should leave
new peer sessions shut down until you and your peer have mutually
decide to move over.
- Starting July 15th (a Wednesday):
- Transition to new IPv4 block is encouraged as follows:
- Copy your IPv4 config and renumber into the 206.81.80/23 (yes,
twenty-three) subnet, with the final octet remaining the same as
your present SIX IPv4 address. Consult the participants page
(http://www.seattleix.net/participants.htm) to confirm.
- Watch to see your peers switch over. When they have, remove the
legacy IPv4 sessions.
- Starting August 17th:
- Admin down any broken IPv4 sessions and use email directly with your
peer to further coordinate transition.
- Starting September 15th:
- The SIX janitor will return from summer vacation and begin chasing
down participants with broken sessions.
IPv6 timeline:
- Week of April 20th:
- Transition to new IPv6 block is encouraged as follows:
- Create new IPv6 config based on old, but using new addresses.
Check the participants page
(http://www.seattleix.net/participants.htm) for your new SIX IPv6
address! (more than just the network has changed)
- Watch to see your peers switch over. When they have, remove the
legacy IPv6 sessions.
- Week of May 18th:
- Admin down any broken IPv6 sessions and use email with your peers to
further coordinate transition.
