Joining the SIX

The SIX is located in Seattle's Westin Building.

If you would like to become a tenant of the Westin Building, the phone number is 206-443-1800. If you would like to colocate in the Westin Building, some of the possibilities are listed below.

There are a number of extensions connected to the SIX core fabric. The participants web page indicates how each peer is connected. We recommend that you connect directly to the core, as described here, if able.

Connecting to the SIX

  • Establish your link to the SIX Core (or one of the extensions):

  • Supply Interface SFP / Submit Port fees for circuits to the SIX Core:
    • For GigE, you will need to provide:
      • An SFP (Cisco GLC-LH-SM or compatible) or for $100 we will provide one for you.
      • There is no port fee from the SIX for your first GigE port.
      • General guideline on an additional GigE port is that 50% peak usage of present GigE capacity or a $1,000 one-time port fee of cash or equivalent, will secure a participant an additional GigE port.
    • For 10GE you will need to provide:
      • An SFP+ (Arista 10GBASE-LR or compatible) or, as an additional way to support the community, we can provide an SFP+ for your circuit for $1,000.
      • $5,000 one-time port fee of cash or equivalent per 10GE port.
    • The SIX mailing address is:
      Seattle Internet Exchange, Inc.
      1700 7th Ave Ste 116 #400
      Seattle, WA 98101-1323
    • Payment can be via check to the above or via PayPal (paypal _a_t_ seattleix.net). If paying by PayPal please add 4% to cover the PayPal fees.
    • If you decide to give additional SFPs/SFP+s or additional money, you will be recognized on the contributors page for your added donation. The SIX exists because of donations.

  • After completing a cross-connect to the SIX fabric (Fabric Request)
    1. Verify that your link-state across the circuit is now up
    2. Submit the following address space request to info _a_t_ seattleix.net:
        Organization Name:
Organization URL (or Peering Policy page if available):
        ASN:
        Reverse DNS FQDN: (ex. six.example.net)
        Router MAC Address:
        Tech Name:
        Tech Email:
        Tech Phone:
        NOC Phone:
        NOC Email:
        Peering Email:
        IPv6: (yes or no)
        Multicast: (yes or no)

    3. While waiting for your allocation, please review the config advice here and configure your router and SIX-facing interface accordingly.
  • After you are connected and have your router configured with the IP address, you will probably want to contact the current participants about peering.

Don't forget to read and follow the rules!

Obtaining a circuit (cross-connect) to the SIX

Circuits for Tenants within the Westin Building

  1. Send an e-mail to info _a_t_ seattleix.net and tell them you need a single-mode fiber allocation to the SIX. Also specify whether the circuit will be GigE or 10GE.
  2. You will either be assigned a circuit from our inventory or referred to the Westin for a new assignment.
  3. Once approved, they will allocate a jack on their panel in the FMMR for you. They charge a $200 one-time fee to recoup their costs.
  4. Your technician can then run a cross-connect from your Fiber patch-panel to the Westin panel.
  5. Complete the Fabric Request
